Three-day losing streak snapped. The tell is in the breadth and the vol: the Russell led at +1.13% while VIX collapsed 7% back to 15.20, erasing the entire fear premium built during Monday and Tuesday’s bond-driven selloff. Yields stopped going up, and that was enough.

Breaking News & Macro Events

Stock Market Today (Sept. 2, 2026): Dow edges higher as oil prices rise and bond yields climb — Yahoo Finance

Equities recovered as the Treasury complex took a breather from the run to multiyear highs. The 10-year closed flat at 4.80% after touching an intraday 4.81% — still at the top of its 52-week range, but the rate of change stopped, and that distinction did all the work today. Note what did not happen: the underlying macro stress didn’t resolve, it just paused.

Markets see Warsh endorsing a rate hike in September — not everyone is convinced — CNBC

Fed Chair Kevin Warsh’s Jackson Hole framing — that a September hike is “finely balanced” — leaves the September 15–16 FOMC as close to a genuine coin flip as these things get, with markets pricing roughly 50% odds of a 25bp increase. Two data points stand between here and there: Friday’s August employment report and the September 11 CPI print, which lands four days before the meeting opens.

Canada’s counter-tariffs on $27.6B of US goods take effect September 8 — Department of Finance Canada

Tariffs of 15–50% on more than 700 US goods — steel, dairy, appliances, farm equipment, electronics — begin next Tuesday in retaliation for the US 50% levies on Canadian imports. The timing matters more than the magnitude: a fresh supply-side price impulse arrives one week before a Fed meeting where the hawks already have the microphone.

Watchlist

Dividend Stocks

COST — Costco Wholesale ($928.48, -1.22%)

  • Earnings: 2026-09-24 (22 days away)
  • Ex-Dividend: 2026-07-23 (passed) | Yield: 0.63%
  • 52W Range: $844.06 — $1,096.50
  • News: Costco stock drops despite market gains — one of the few red names on a green tape, with valuation still the sticking point heading into the September 24 print.

NKE — Nike Inc. ($38.24, +0.31%)

  • Earnings: 2026-10-01 (29 days away)
  • Ex-Dividend: 2026-08-31 (passed) | Dividend: $0.41, payable 2026-09-30 | Yield: 4.30%
  • 52W Range: $37.97 — $76.97 (0.7% off the 52-week low) ⚠️
  • News: Nike stock hovers near 52-week low ahead of Q1 FY26 update — the stock has halved from its 52-week high, and the 4.30% yield is now doing more of the argument than the turnaround story is.

PFE — Pfizer Inc. ($29.02, +1.65%)

  • Earnings: 2026-11-03 (62 days away)
  • Ex-Dividend: 2026-07-23 (passed) | Yield: 6.02%
  • 52W Range: $23.58 — $29.09 (0.2% off the 52-week high) ⚠️
  • Quietly one of the best-behaved names on the list — pressing a 52-week high while paying 6%.

UPS — United Parcel Service ($103.01, +0.34%)

  • Earnings: 2026-10-27 (55 days away)
  • Dividend: paid today, 2026-09-02 | Yield: 6.39%
  • 52W Range: $82.00 — $122.41
  • News: UPS rolls out digital shipping upgrades — real-time pickup dashboard and mobile app enhancements. Incremental, not a thesis-changer.

Growth Stocks

AAPL — Apple Inc. ($324.96, -0.05%)

  • Earnings: 2026-10-29 (57 days away)
  • 52W Range: $225.95 — $344.57
  • News: John Ternus takes over as Apple CEO from Tim Cook — the handover became effective September 1, with Cook moving to executive chairman after 15 years. The market’s verdict so far is a shrug in both directions, which is roughly what a well-telegraphed succession is supposed to produce.

AMZN — Amazon.com Inc. ($254.98, +0.02%)

CRCL — Circle Internet Group ($88.64, -0.94%)

GOOG — Alphabet Inc. ($333.78, +0.53%)

  • Earnings: 2026-10-28 (56 days away)
  • 52W Range: $225.12 — $404.47

HIMS — Hims & Hers Health ($28.68, +0.84%)

  • Earnings: 2026-11-09 (68 days away)
  • 52W Range: $13.74 — $65.30

INTC — Intel Corporation ($90.05, +1.21%)

  • Earnings: 2026-10-22 (50 days away)
  • 52W Range: $23.72 — $142.35
  • Still digesting the $20 billion equity raise priced at $95/share in August — the stock trades below the offering price, so every buyer in that book is underwater. The 52-week range on this name is a reminder of how violent the round trip has been.

META — Meta Platforms ($592.85, +2.47%)

  • Earnings: 2026-10-28 (56 days away)
  • 52W Range: $520.26 — $790.80
  • News: Meta and states agree to $17 billion child safety settlement (Aug 26) — payable over ten years, plus mandated two-hour cumulative teen time limits and an overnight “Night mode.” Best day on the watchlist among megacaps today, with the legal overhang now a known, amortized number rather than an open-ended trial.

MSTR — Strategy ($123.19, -1.35%)

  • Earnings: 2026-10-29 (57 days away)
  • 52W Range: $81.81 — $365.21
  • Down on a broadly green day — the bitcoin proxy is not participating in the equity bounce.

NNE — Nano Nuclear Energy ($17.59, +0.69%)

  • Earnings: last reported 2026-08-12
  • 52W Range: $14.71 — $60.87

NVDA — NVIDIA Corporation ($224.41, +3.21%) ⚠️

  • Earnings: 2026-11-17 (76 days away)
  • 52W Range: $164.07 — $236.54 (5.1% off the 52-week high)
  • Best megacap move on the board, and the proximate cause looks like read-through from Dell’s blowout AI quarter — a record $60.9 billion in AI server orders and a $95 billion backlog. Dell’s backlog is, in large part, someone else’s GPU order book.

OKLO — Oklo Inc. ($39.52, +2.57%)

  • Earnings: 2026-11-10 (69 days away)
  • 52W Range: $36.61 — $193.84
  • Bounced with the SMR complex but sits just 8% above its 52-week low after a ~80% drawdown from the high.

RKLB — Rocket Lab USA ($63.10, +0.90%)

  • Earnings: 2026-11-09 (68 days away)
  • 52W Range: $37.57 — $151.00

SMR — NuScale Power ($9.56, +3.80%) ⚠️

  • Earnings: 2026-11-05 (64 days away)
  • 52W Range: $7.21 — $57.42
  • Biggest percentage gainer among the nuclear names, though no company-specific catalyst surfaced today. A high-beta bounce off a badly damaged base — the stock is down roughly 83% from its 52-week high.

SMCI — Super Micro Computer ($37.00, +0.79%)

  • Earnings: 2026-11-03 (62 days away)
  • 52W Range: $19.48 — $58.78

SOFI — SoFi Technologies ($17.84, +4.63%) ⚠️

  • Earnings: 2026-10-27 (55 days away)
  • 52W Range: $14.88 — $32.73
  • Top performer on the watchlist. No single-name catalyst turned up — this reads as the cleanest expression of today’s macro trade, since rate-sensitive fintech lenders were exactly what the bond selloff had been punishing.

TEM — Tempus AI ($61.94, -0.53%)

TSM — Taiwan Semiconductor ($415.50, +0.36%)

  • Earnings: 2026-10-15 (43 days away)
  • 52W Range: $228.60 — $479.00

UNH — UnitedHealth Group ($399.66, +0.85%)

  • Earnings: 2026-10-27 (55 days away)
  • 52W Range: $255.97 — $461.62
  • News: UnitedHealthcare unveils 1,700 treatments no longer needing prior approval — effective October 1, spanning colonoscopies, biopsies, hernia repairs and a large block of genetic and molecular testing codes, part of a pledged 30% reduction in prior-authorization volume. Regulatory goodwill purchased with medical-cost risk; watch the loss ratio.

Gold clawed back roughly half of the 2.84% it gave up yesterday — a partial recovery, not a full one, which is the honest read. Yesterday the rates channel overwhelmed the haven bid; today, with the 10-year pinned flat, the haven bid got some of the field back but not all of it. Crude was effectively unchanged on both benchmarks while holding above $90 — the Hormuz supply premium is intact and simply not moving. The standout is the yen, up 0.92% against a barely-changed dollar, the one place where the day’s price action doesn’t fit a simple risk-on story.

Notable Voices

The markets could rally ‘very strongly’ if the Fed holds rates in September — Tom Lee, Fundstrat / CNBC (2026-08-31)

Lee’s base case is a Fed hold on September 15, and he argues that softer jobs and CPI prints alongside it could produce a strong rally. His contrarian point is that September’s reputation for weakness has already pulled positioning bearish, which is precisely the setup that surprises to the upside. He puts S&P support at 7,300–7,400 through any October softness, with 8,200+ as the year-end path.

Jim Cramer says one stock is more important than Nvidia today — Jim Cramer, CNBC / 24/7 Wall St. (2026-09-02)

Cramer called Dell’s quarter “one of the best quarters I’ve ever seen,” arguing it “should change people’s minds, at least about Dell, maybe about tech” — a record $60.9 billion in AI server orders and a $95 billion backlog. Worth noting the tension in his own book: he simultaneously raised his charitable trust’s cash position above 15%, a 25-year high. Bullish on the AI capex cycle, defensive on the index.

Market Outlook

Equities snapped a three-day losing streak with the Russell 2000 leading at +1.13% and VIX shedding 7% to 15.20 — but the catalyst was an absence rather than an event, namely a 10-year Treasury that finished flat at 4.80% instead of climbing again. That distinction matters, because none of the three pressures driving last week’s selloff actually eased: crude is still above $90 on Hormuz supply risk, Canada’s counter-tariffs on $27.6 billion of US goods land September 8, and Chair Warsh has left a September rate hike as a live coin flip. Gold recovering about half its prior-day loss while the dollar sat still suggests the haven bid never left — it was simply outmuscled by rates yesterday. The rotation into rate-sensitive names, with SoFi up 4.63% and the Russell outpacing the megacaps, warrants attention as a positioning tell rather than a conviction trade. Friday’s August employment report is the first of two prints that will settle the September FOMC question, and a soft number is the shortest path to validating today’s bounce.
