Overnight Developments
Micron’s blowout quarter ignites an AI chip rally in Asia — SEC / Micron 8-K
Micron reported fiscal Q4 after Tuesday’s close: revenue of $54.2 billion, up 379% year-over-year, with adjusted EPS of $33.42 and gross margin near 87%. Full-year revenue hit a record $133.2 billion. The read-through on AI memory demand sent Japanese semiconductor names sharply higher overnight — Advantest, Tokyo Electron and SoftBank led the Nikkei to its biggest move in weeks.
Affected sectors: Semiconductors, Technology, AI infrastructure
The catch worth watching: Micron’s own stock has not followed. MU opened pre-market at $1,072.50 and faded steadily to roughly $1,065 — essentially flat against Tuesday’s close. Asia bought the AI theme far harder than US traders have so far bid the company that produced it. That divergence is the single most important thing to watch at the open.
Rates remain the headwind
The US 10-year yield closed Tuesday at 5.29%, extending a steady climb (5.18% → 5.24% → 5.26% → 5.29% over four sessions). The 30-year sits at 5.64%. This is a continuing grind rather than an overnight shock, but it caps how much multiple expansion the AI trade can get.
Futures & Pre-Market
| Index | Futures | Change |
|---|---|---|
| S&P 500 | 7,743.25 | +0.36% |
| NASDAQ | 30,932.25 | +0.76% |
| DOW | 51,320 | +0.08% |
NASDAQ futures lead, consistent with the semiconductor bid out of Asia. Cash-market pre-market prints corroborate: SPY +0.38%, DIA +0.12%.
Watchlist Movers
- RKLB +5.1% — sustained bid from 04:00 ET onward, trading $71.66–$73.65 against a $69.68 close. No confirmed catalyst dated today; the Iridium acquisition is not expected to close until mid-2027, so that is not the driver. Treat the move as real but unexplained.
- NNE +2.2% — nuclear names firm
- GOOG +2.1% — holding $348 through the session
- AMZN +1.0%, SMCI +0.9%, NVDA +0.9%, MSTR +0.7%, TSM +0.6%
- Laggards: NKE −0.3%, AAPL −0.3%, UNH −0.3%
International Markets
Nikkei 225 +3.30% to 68,956 — the standout, driven by the Micron read-through into AI and memory names. Europe is going the other way: FTSE 100 −1.14% and DAX −0.10% in mid-session trade.
Hong Kong and mainland China are closed for National Day and the start of Golden Week. Any Asian breadth read today excludes roughly half the region.
Commodities are firm rather than soft: front-month Brent is +1.7% near $99.67 and WTI +1.0% near $91.33, on explicit contract months.
What to Watch at Open
The tape is split: Asia bought the AI story hard while Europe sold and the 10-year sits at 5.29%. The tell is whether US semis follow Japan’s lead or follow Micron’s own flat pre-market tape — a strong print that the stock refuses to reward is usually the more honest signal.
