The AI trade got a reprieve. Per CNBC’s live market blog, Anthropic’s public IPO filing pulled chipmakers off the floor: the iShares Semiconductor ETF (SOXX) rose nearly 3%, Nvidia 2.4%, Micron 3% and AMD 2.8%. Consumer discretionary and tech led, while communication services slipped and the XLC ETF hit its lowest level since June 2025. A 0.8% dip in Brent helped too. The bounce comes from a weak base: SOXX is still about 25% off its high and down 13% this month, and the S&P 500 and Nasdaq are coming off back-to-back weekly losses. Jay Woods of Freedom Capital Markets on Anthropic: “The market needed this, just like it needed SpaceX.”

Breaking News & Macro Events

Anthropic files publicly for a Nasdaq IPO under “ANT” — CNBC

Anthropic’s Form S-1 is now public, roughly four months after a confidential filing in June. It plans to list on the Nasdaq as ANT. Per CNBC’s market wrap, it reported $16.29 billion of revenue for the six months ended June, up 1,304% from $1.16 billion a year earlier. The filing lands a few months after SpaceX’s $85.7 billion Nasdaq debut, and while neoclouds such as CoreWeave and Nebius have lost more than 30% of their value this month as data-center credit risk rises. Monday’s tape said investors want this deal. The question is whether one IPO can carry a sector the credit market is still repricing.

Meta plans to raise $95 billion in equity for AI infrastructure — CNBC

Meta will start with $35 billion of underwritten public equity offerings, then raise another $60 billion through an at-the-market program. The company said Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom were interested in buying up to $5 billion of the shares. The raise follows last week’s Q3 report, where revenue of $64.60 billion beat but negative free cash flow and a capex range lifted to $135–145 billion sent the stock lower. Including Alphabet’s $85 billion raise in June and SpaceX’s $40 billion GPU debt deal, the hyperscalers are now funding the build-out from the capital markets, not just from cash flow. META closed -1.9%.

Brazilian assets crash as Lula wins a fourth term — CNBC

Lula beat Flávio Bolsonaro 51.8% to 48.2%, the first time since 1989 that a runoff winner had lost the first round, and markets had priced the opposite result. The iShares MSCI Brazil ETF was 25% lower at 10:30 a.m. ET, B3 trading was halted by a circuit breaker, Petrobras ADRs fell 16% and Itaú 20%, and the real dropped 10.5% against the dollar. Brazil’s Treasury canceled this week’s fixed-rate and inflation-linked bond auctions. ING’s Chris Turner: “a 7-8% budget deficit and 70% net debt-to-GDP ratio leave Brazil vulnerable in a global bond sell-off.” Per Reuters via CNBC, Bolsonaro has refused to concede and says he will seek to annul the result.

Trump: “It’s getting to be decision time” on Iran — CNBC

In a Sunday Fox News interview, Trump said he was deciding whether to “finish it off” or “make a deal” with Iran, and named Pickaxe Mountain, a deeply buried nuclear site, as a potential target. The last confirmed U.S. strikes were on Sept. 1, and Trump has said attacks would not resume before the Nov. 3 midterms. Qatari mediators were in Tehran on Sunday, and senior Saudi, Turkish and Pakistani officials met Iran’s leadership on Monday. Oil eased anyway: Brent settled -0.8% at $115.81 and WTI -1.7% at $101.57. Per CNBC, the U.S. Strategic Petroleum Reserve is at 282.6 million barrels, its lowest since 1982.

Treasury yields flat ahead of Wednesday’s Fed decision — CNBC

The 10-year was little changed at 4.986%, the 2-year rose 3 bp to 4.716% and the 30-year slipped to 5.299%. CME FedWatch prices a 90%+ chance the Fed holds at 3.75%–4.00% on Wednesday. CNBC’s Jessica Dickler notes that nearly 75% of traders expect at least one more hike by year-end, after September’s 25 bp hike, the first since 2023. Deutsche Bank expects a hawkish pause, and says Chair Warsh is likely to make clear that tight financial conditions “are not a substitute for higher policy rates.” The 2-year rising while the 10-year sat still is a mild bear flattener, which fits that read.

Notable Voices

Elon Musk says more than 200 neoclouds face “guppy-level death” — Chamath Palihapitiya, via CNBC (2026-10-26)

Musk was replying to an X thread from Palihapitiya, who expects “a lot of partially stranded compute and compute sitting in inventory in 2027 than is currently forecasted”: capacity that is “bought and paid for but effectively underearning (below total cost of capital) or collecting dust.” His call: “2027 will be a turbulent year because it will clear out a bunch of wrong/bad bets. It will also be a consolidation year for a few.” Musk added that debt markets have “almost entirely shut off” for companies without revenue outside AI data centers. CoreWeave, Nebius and Iren all fell early, then closed higher.

Dan Ives on big tech’s earnings test: “It all comes down to demand and what we see in CapEx” — Dan Ives, CNBC Power Lunch (2026-10-26)

Ives, now a partner and senior managing director at Yorkville Ives, previewed this week’s Microsoft, Alphabet and Amazon reports. Only the segment’s headline and description were available. His framing is the right one for the week: after Meta’s capex raise and Monday’s $95 billion equity raise, the market wants proof of demand that pays for the spending, not just bigger spending.

Market Outlook

The Anthropic filing gave the AI trade its best day in weeks. The S&P 500 rose 0.70%, the Nasdaq 0.82%, SOXX nearly 3% and the VIX fell 5.5%. It was a relief bounce inside a downtrend: chips remain in a bear market, and the same session brought Meta’s $95 billion equity raise and Musk and Palihapitiya predicting a 2027 shakeout among neoclouds. Momentum now depends on whether this week’s hyperscaler results justify the capital they keep raising. The macro backdrop is still tight. The 10-year sits near 5%, Brent above $115, and nearly 75% of traders expect at least one more hike by year-end, so a hold on Wednesday that Chair Warsh frames hawkishly warrants attention. The next 72 hours carry the Fed on Wednesday, Alphabet Wednesday evening, and GDP, PCE, Amazon and Intel on Thursday. Those will show whether Monday was a turn or a breather.
