Chips bounced on Election Day and Apple held the Dow back. The S&P 500 snapped a three-day losing streak, and the Nasdaq-100 rose 0.7% but is still in correction territory, about 10% below its recent high, per CNBC’s live market blog. The Dow fell 197 points because Apple dropped almost 2% on its margin forecast. AMD rose more than 3% ahead of its report and Broadcom 3%, and Nvidia and Micron each added more than 2%. SOXX rose 2.5%. The rally was narrow. Tech was the best S&P 500 sector at +1.4% in the afternoon, but six of 11 sectors fell, and at that point decliners beat advancers 291 to 211. “The concerns about the cost of capital and the level of debt financing necessary [are] going to persist for quite some time,” Potomac Fund Management’s Shawn Snyder told CNBC.

Breaking News & Macro Events

Midterm elections could jolt stocks if Democrats sweep Congress — CNBC

Polls point to a Democratic House and a toss-up Senate. Prediction markets lean further and see a nearly 75% chance that Democrats take the Senate, per the live blog. Wolfe Research’s Tobin Marcus says investors express “begrudging acceptance” of a sweep but haven’t positioned for it. JPMorgan sees a blue wave taking about half a percent off the S&P 500 on Wednesday, and up to a 1% gain if Republicans hold the Senate. History favors the bulls: the S&P 500 was higher one year after every midterm going back to the early 1980s. BTIG’s Jonathan Krinsky disagrees: “We have the opposite setup this year.” BMO’s Ian Lyngen: “The better the Democrats perform, the more nervous the market is likely to become regarding AI regulations.” A separate risk is a contested result. The DOJ said it will appeal after a judge dismissed its suit to block certification in Alaska’s Senate race, and Ned Davis Research’s Ed Clissold warns of a “prolonged period of uncertainty.”

Texas race results could kick AI trade while it’s already down — CNBC

Texas is where the election meets the AI trade. Wells Fargo estimates that 27% of data center gigawatts sit in Texas, and Gov. Greg Abbott halted data-center permitting in September. Evercore ISI says Abbott is likely to lift the moratorium and Democratic challenger Gina Hinojosa is expected to keep it. “The worrisome outcome here would be that not only does Talarico win the U.S. Senate seat, but you have Gina Hinojosa defeating Abbott,” said Washington Analysis’ John Sonsalla. The SOX is down about 19% over the past month.

AMD stock jumps 7% on earnings as data center revenue nearly doubles — CNBC

After the close, AMD reported adjusted EPS of $2.09 against $1.95 expected and revenue of $13.38 billion against $13.09 billion, up 45% from a year earlier. Data center is now 64% of revenue, up from 47%. CEO Lisa Su expects growth in data center processors to “accelerate further.” She guided Q4 revenue to about $17 billion, above the $16.2 billion LSEG consensus. The weak spot is the Q4 gross margin guide of 55%, just under the 55.3% StreetAccount estimate. Client-and-gaming revenue fell 8% and gaming alone fell 40%, the same PC weakness that sank Intel last week. AMD closed at $483.90 (+3.7%) and traded near $521 after hours.

Meta seeks to raise up to $25 billion in debt sale as AI spending jumps — CNBC

Meta is pricing a $20 billion to $25 billion bond sale, about two-thirds in dollars and one-third in euros, per people familiar with the deal. S&P Global Ratings recently cut its outlook on Meta’s AA- rating to negative, citing capex “uncertainty” and negative free cash flow. Meta’s Q3 free cash flow was -$2.12 billion. That came on top of last week’s plan to raise $95 billion, including $35 billion in underwritten equity. This is the third big AI raise in two days after Oracle’s $20 billion on Monday. Blackstone President Jon Gray called for more equity to fund the buildout as debt risks mount. Meta’s stock still rose 2.4% after falling in 12 of the prior 14 sessions.

Crude oil falls for a second day as the market hopes for an Iran deal — CNBC

Oil opened higher on reports of U.S. strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island, which a U.S. official called “a defensive measure.” It then reversed on rumors that talks were progressing. Brent settled down 1.12% at $103.60 and WTI fell 0.38% to $96.09, per the live blog. Vice President Vance said he and Trump “feel really good about the prospect of potentially coming to a negotiated settlement.” A senior Iranian official told Reuters that the two sides remain far from a deal.

Binance says hackers used fake job interviews and AI tools to steal $6.3 billion — CNBC

Co-CEO Richard Teng said the attackers “spent months building their way in.” One engineer was lured into installing a fake developer tool, and another was hit with malware hidden in a recruiting coding exercise. Teng said Binance has replenished 98% of the $6.34 billion of affected assets. Tether, Circle, Ripple and others froze or restricted about $3 billion of the stolen funds. CNBC argues that the breach puts a premium on custody providers, and it notes that Circle entered custody this year after the OCC approved it as a trust bank.

Notable Voices

Jim Cramer likes CrowdStrike’s new ‘AI kill switch’ and the cyber stock — Jim Cramer, CNBC Investing Club (2026-11-03)

“You should just go buy CrowdStrike,” Cramer said. He called its AI Kill Switch, a tool for shutting down rogue AI agents, the “holy grail”: “Everyone says there’s no kill switch… It’s not true anymore.” The Club also raised its Apple price target after the print and stayed at “own it, don’t trade it.” The Club conceded that at more than 35 times forward earnings, Apple “needed to report a picture-perfect quarter,” and it didn’t.

Bill Ackman warns of ‘casino’ stock market as speculative trading grows — Bill Ackman, CNBC Squawk Box (2026-11-03)

“Every number of days, I feel like markets are broken,” Ackman said. “We’re back to the casino-type markets when there was 95% leverage.” He blames one-day leveraged vehicles, perpetual futures and sports betting for the violent single-stock moves. He also says the same dislocations let Pershing Square buy Microsoft, Amazon and Alphabet cheaply. He named Visa, Mastercard and Netflix among his favorites.

Market Outlook

Chips rebounded and lifted the Nasdaq 0.83% and the S&P 500 0.36%, but six of 11 sectors fell and Apple’s memory-driven margin guide pulled the Dow down 0.38%, so this was relief more than a broad recovery. After the close, the AI hardware fundamentals looked strong. Super Micro’s $19.9 billion quarter quadrupled year-on-year sales, and AMD’s data-center mix rose to 64% with a $17 billion Q4 guide. The financing story is the problem. Meta’s $20–25 billion bond sale, a day after Oracle’s $20 billion raise, keeps the cost of the buildout in focus. Santoli argues that “the bull market built on the AI story will almost surely need the AI story to get back on track.” A strong JOLTS print pushed the 10-year yield back up to 4.95%, which doesn’t help either. Tonight’s midterm results are the immediate catalyst, especially the Texas races and their effect on the data-center trade. Friday’s payrolls (consensus +59,000) then test whether rising yields compound the pressure on AI financing. How the market handles both warrants attention.
